The Government’s long-awaited Transport Strategy Better Connected – A Strategy for Integrated Transport was published today. The strategy sets out the Government’s plans for future transport provision and connectivity for the next decade.

Anna Zee, BMF’s Political and Technical Services Director said:

” The BMF welcomes the publication today by the Government of its new Integrated Transport Strategy. The BMF submitted detailed comments in response to the original consultation on the strategy launched in early 2025, when we called on the Government to recognise motorcycling as an integral part of the UK’s future transport model.

We are pleased to see that motorcycling has been included in the strategy as a future sustainable transport option that can both cut congestion and reduce overall UK carbon emissions, but the strategy announced today is a starting point which the Government needs to build on, working with key partners to flesh out the detail. We also welcome the focus in the strategy on improving the state of the UK’s roads, with a shift from short-term fixes to long-term preventative maintenance; an issue the BMF and our key partner the National Motorcyclists Council (NMC) have long campaigned on through the work of the Pothole Partnership. The appalling state of the UK’s roads, and in particular the current scourge of potholes across the road network, represents a significant risk to all road users, but in particular to motorcyclists and other vulnerable road users who face a real risk of serious injury or worse.”

We look forward to working with Ministers, officials and Local Authorities to develop the “Better Connected” strategy and position motorcycling front and centre of the Government’s future transport plans as a sustainable, accessible and affordable personal transport option of choice; one that will connect communities, support future economic growth and assist in the delivery of the Government’s wider Net Zero ambitions.
