BMF Fight Against Fake Riding Gear BMF News 28 January 2026 Paul Varnsverry Joins Forces with the BMF in the Fight Against Fake Riding Gear Paul Varnsverry, a leading expert in the design, manufacture and use of specialist motorcycle personal protective equipment, and who has been directly involved in the development of clothing standards and in testing and certification over many years, has formally joined forces with the BMF to tackle the growing trade in counterfeit and unsafe riding gear. Paul was previously involved with the BMF back in the 1990s, when he worked on the development of the earlier “High Performance Garment Scheme” which was endorsed by the BMF and, at that time, utilised the BMF logo to assist riders in identifying the authenticity of official motorcycle clothing. Paul has, over the course of a very successful career, worked tirelessly with Government and motorcycling partners to tackle the trade in counterfeit motorcycle clothing and, in more recent years, has taken on a growing number of online vendors promoting and selling unsafe riding gear. He has also been working closely with the National Motorcyclists Council (NMC) and BMF to develop a new cross-sector strategy to tackle this growing problem that represents a real risk to the safety of motorcyclists. Jim Freeman, BMF’s Chair said: “ The BMF is very pleased to announce that Paul will be formally joining the BMF team to provide expert advice to the BMF and our members on how to avoid fake riding gear. This is a growing problem that puts riders and their passengers at serious risk of injury and worse. We are very much looking forward to working with Paul and utilising his expertise to clamp down on this dangerous trade.” Written by Paul Morgan CBE Top image courtesy of Yulia Pavlov – iStock Share on Facebook Share Share on TwitterTweet Share on Pinterest Share Share on LinkedIn Share Share on Digg Share
