Iconic British Brand CCM Motorcycles — Assets to Go Under Auction Hammer

British motorcycle manufacturer CCM Motorcycles has entered administration, marking the end of a legacy spanning over five decades. The Lancashire company’s remaining motorcycle, parts, tooling and factory assets are now being auctioned through a timed online sale hosted by Gateway Auctions Limited.

Founded in 1971 by Alan Clews, CCM (Clews Competition Machines) became renowned for its lightweight, hand-built motorcycles and its strong connection to British motorcycling heritage. The company developed a cult following through models such as the Spitfire series and the Heritage ‘71.

Despite this reputation, the company faced mounting financial difficulties in recent years. On 26 June 2025, CCM Motorcycles formally entered administration following a significant drop in production which had reportedly fallen to around 150 bikes annually – down from previous years where they regularly built over 300 units.

In August 2025, Gateway Auctions Limited, Lancashire-based industrial auctioneer acquired CCM’s remaining assets. These are now listed for public auction in a timed online sale set to close on 23 October 2025.

The auction catalogue includes:

• New and development motorcycles
• Limited-edition models (including the Heritage ‘71)
• Workshop and factory equipment
• Spare parts and tooling
• Office furniture and branded memorabilia

All items are sold as seen, with no warranties or post-sale support provided.

Opportunity with Caution

While this may represent a rare opportunity for enthusiasts to acquire a part of British motorcycling history, the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) urges caution. Buyers should carefully review lot details, auction terms, and collection requirements.

There is currently no formal commitment to resume production or offer ongoing technical support. However, Gateway Auctions has indicated it may seek to produce a limited number of bikes using remaining stock and tooling, and that some former CCM staff have been retained.

The BMF will continue to monitor developments and provide updates to its members should future plans regarding CCM’s legacy, parts supply or brand ownership be confirmed.
