Motorcycle Thefts Down in June Other news 20 July 202531 July 2025 Thefts of powered two-wheelers of all types totalled 2064 in June 2025, slightly down (by 72) compared to May. According to statistics compiled by Bennetts, and sponsored by Datatool and BikeTrac, this overall figure hid some big regional variations, with some police authority areas reporting an increase in thefts. In Warwickshire, thefts soared by 76% (up from 21 in May to 37 in June) while Hampshire (from 53 to 80) and Staffordshire (50 to 71) were also hard hit. Some areas saw huge percentage increases, but this was down to the small number of cases involved – thefts were up in Northern Ireland by 700%, but only because the eight cases in June dwarfed that of May, when just a single bike was recorded as stolen. The good news is that although 19 areas saw thefts increase, 31 enjoyed a fall in numbers. In Dorset they were down by nearly 68% (31 to 10) and continuing good news in the south west, Devon & Cornwall saw just 21 thefts (down from 31 in May) while there was a 27% fall in Greater Manchester and Leicestershire. As ever, the worst area for thefts was Metropolitan London, but that reflects the high numbers of scooters and bikes used in the capital – 601 two-wheelers stolen in June, equating to a marginal fall of 2.75%. At the BMF, chair Jim Freeman echoed police advice that owners could do a lot to combat theft. “No real change I’m afraid. Bike theft still remains a low priority for policing generally, where its regarded as property crime and therefore something for owners and insurers rather than active policing.” To read full Bennetts article please click here Written by Peter Henshaw Image authors own Share on Facebook Share Share on TwitterTweet Share on Pinterest Share Share on LinkedIn Share Share on Digg Share
