Camden Parking Charges – Update

Save London Motorcycling has issued a “Press Release Update” regarding the proposals by Camden Council to introduce new parking charges for motorcycles in Camden (You can Read the Save London Motorcycling Press Release Here)

Following opposition from riders and rider organisations, including the BMF, National Motorcyclists Council (NMC) and Save London Motorcycling, to the proposed implementation of new parking charges for motorcycles across Camden, the Council has now delayed the statutory consultation on the proposals for motorcycle parking fees until late autumn, whilst pressing ahead with their proposals for cars and other vehicles. This is a significant climb down by Camden Council but the threat to motorcyclists remains. If you live or work in Camden we need riders to email their MP and Local Councillors and chase up previous emails to stop the charges for motorcycles from being brought in, and for the Council to stop attacking motorcyclists and accept that motorcycles offer a greener, sustainable low-emission solution for Local Authorities to achieve their Net Zero targets. Internal combustion engine Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs), including motorcycles and mopeds, contribute just 0.46% to the UK’s domestic transport emissions and have an important transitional role to play in the UK’s wider acceleration to Net Zero, as well as offering a viable solution to current congestion issues across the UK’s road network.

It is time for Camden Council to change its approach and to work constructively with the motorcycling community to deliver affordable, low-emission and accessible transport solutions as part of a future, integrated transport model that works for all rather than seeking to drive motorcyclists out of London.
