Keep it Legal: Ride Right Campaign

Keep it Legal: Ride Right Campaign Launches Today (22 June 2026) to Protect the Future of Legal on and off-road Motorcycling

In recent years, a visible minority of irresponsible and anti-social riders have unfortunately been putting the future of active outdoor motorcycling under threat by riding illegally — on footpaths, bridleways, private and common land, and other places where no motor vehicle rights exist. This has involved both motorcycles and illegal high powered eBikes, with their riders tyrannising local communities and damaging the reputation and freedoms of the responsible majority of motorcyclists.

The Ride Right campaign, spearheaded by the Trail Riders Federation (TRF) and the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU), and supported by key motorcycling bodies such as the National Motorcyclists Council (NMC) and Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), is a national initiative designed to fight back against illegal and irresponsible riders whilst promoting responsible motorcycling and behaviours, whether that be whilst enjoying a motorcycle ride out on a green road or whilst competing at a club enduro.

Jim Freeman, the BMF’s Chair said:

“The BMF is proud to support the Ride Right Campaign to protect the rights of legitimate motorcyclists to enjoy the countryside in a responsible and professional manner.

“The Ride Right campaign is about promoting responsible behaviour by riders involved in active, outdoor motorcycling, which many thousands of motorcyclists enjoy on a regular basis for pleasure, recreation, sport and good mental health.

“These activities and freedoms have been enjoyed motorcyclists for generations, but those rights and freedoms are unfortunately now being undermined and put at risk by a thoughtless and irresponsible minority who are damaging the reputation of legitimate motorcycling through their actions.

The motorcycling community needs to come together, with the police, landowners and local communities, to protect responsible access to the countryside; preserving our countryside heritage, and encouraging respectful, environmentally aware enjoyment of on and off-road routes by motorcyclists now and for the future.”
